We are all secretly obsessed with EPIC collabs, due to the fact that it lets us pursue creativity! “I am in love with the romantic, arcane, and disturbingly beautiful lighting of the 1920’s. I enjoyed playing with the shadows bouncing onto the cream coloured wall with the delicate late afternoon light – it was the perfect way to start off our story. The golden light of the evening against the blue sky and snow covered grounds inspired me beyond words – it allowed me to properly showcase the style of the hair and makeup of which the 1920’s portrayed beautifully.”- Sarah England.

How To Achieve Vintage Aesthetic

I used to think vintage called for structured styles. Think finger waves, victory rolls, pompadours, and so on. In school we practiced each decade and had to strictly follow the elements to get a perfect grade. Now, as a more established artist, I understand that learning those concepts was to understand the fundamentals. The “rules” of hair and makeup could, and should, be broken.

For this vintage bridal styled shoot, I took the traditional 1920’s finger waves and added a modern twist. Firstly, I did a partial finger wave on each side of her head. Subsequently, with the remaining hair, I pulled it in at the nape of her neck to create a simple, clean chignon. Adding a handmade crystal hair accessory gave this look the perfect finishing touch. Staying cohesive to this concept, the beauty makeup followed. Chelsea did a petite red lip, fine brow and darker cool toned smokey eye. She reined in the placement and depth of the eye look to elevate the style in fitting in with the 21st century.

Bridal Styled Shoots, The Takeaway

Bridal styled shoots provoke an emotion. Undoubtedly, these images remind me much of the Great Gatsby era. I close my eyes, and I can see the bride- beaded from head to toe. Gracefully, she gallops out of her vintage car, and into her party, filled with guests dressed to the nines. Silk, chiffon, taffeta, fringe and sequenced dresses galore. Headbands, crowns, and hair comb adorning each head. Purses covered with gold mesh, and glittering beads matched with long gloves, boa’s and cigarette holder’s in hand. The “era of wonderful nonsense,” the 20’s, were full of lavish parties with lavish people, all swishing and swaying to roaring jazz. For this bridal styled shoot, we wanted to emanate this luxe sentiment.
