Let’s be honest.. who doesn’t want to be the most fresh-faced glowing-lady on their wedding day…? I am right ?! Having any texture on the skin is a big no-no and will stop your face from looking smooth and flawless, both in person, and in photos. As much as we want to rely on makeup- foundation and correctors do a better job at covering tone, than any texture. Below I will show you two DIY ways to remove textured skin before your wedding day.
If you didn’t know, your makeup will only look as good as the skin prepped underneath! Most important takeaway from this post- prepping your skin will make, or break the performance of your makeup. Seriously, you are playing with fire when you put contour over patchy, flakey skin! Do your homework, meaning, determine what products will reduce the texture on your skin. This way, your makeup lays and blends harmoniously.
To reduce texture, there are a lot of different options. Most commonly known are physical exfoliators called scrubs. Scrubs have a sort of “grit” that when rubbed on your face physically slough off your dead skin. There are a million products out there that do just this. The OLEHENRIKSEN Transforming Walnut Scrub works well for me, but can be a tad messy. After use, I immediately feel softer, smoother skin!
A chemical exfoliator is most commonly seen as an AHA (alpha-hydroxy acids), BHA (beta-hydroxy acids,) or fruit enzyme (think papaya, pineapple and lemon.) These are terms you likely have heard before if you purchase skincare a lot! Instead of manually removing the dead skin, chemical exfoliators work to aid in cell turnover. You can often find them in peels, my favourite being AMOREPACIFIC Treatment Enzyme Peel Cleansing Powder. This gentle product can be used daily to avoid build-up! Want your DIY facials to feel next level? Work your serums and moisturizers in using our Rose Quartz Rollers.
Going the professional facial route is a safe option. However, it can be costly. If you have it in your budget to visit a medi spa a few times before your wedding, go for it! Derma-planing (the shaving of your face with a scoupel, and applications of masks and treatments after) can make your face look amazingly smooth. Plus the extra glow from a Vitamin-C face mask will make you feel radiant. Derma-planning not only removes all the peach fuzz, but also takes a layer of skin off your face.
Alternatively, microdermabrasion can be another good option. It is effective at removing those blackhead/whiteheads. Whatever you choose, make sure you are not trying out a facial for the first time right before your big day, in case you have an unwanted reaction. Your professional makeup artist should also exfoliate your skin at the beginning of your appointment, maybe even a mini facial with some customary masks, serums and moisturizers. Double check this is included in what you book!
I’m excited to see you with clean, clear skin! To read more about exfoliators, here is one of my fav articles.
